American semiconductor giant AMD has just announced its latest generation Ryzen mobile processors at its CES 2021 keynote address. The company has named the latest Zen 3 core-based mobile processors, AMD Ryzen 5000 series. The different models of the Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors will be spread across the Ryzen 9, 7, 5, and 3. The company also revealed that the Ryzen chips will feature built-in AMD Radeon Graphics. AMD also shared some of the upcoming laptops from its OEM partners with the Ryzen 5000 series mobile chips. Dr. Lisa Su, the President, and CEO of AMD took to the virtual stage to share the latest announcements. As noted above, the highlight of the announcement is likely the arrival of AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors.  Like its predecessor, this new mobile chip series will also feature U, H, and HS series lineups. In fact, the company also unveiled its new HX series of chips aimed at top-of-the-line performance. The HX lineup of processors will come with overclocking support, and a higher TDP for better framerates.

AMD claims that the new chips will bring significant performance improvements with the 7nm Zen 4 cores. One can also expect “Ultrathin laptops” with up to 8 cores and “leading battery life” in notebooks. AMD claimed “up to 17.5 hours” of general use, and “up to 21 hours movie playback” on the Ryzen 7 5800U-powered notebooks. It also showcased comparison benchmarks comparing the Ryzen 5000 mobile chips with 11th gen Intel Core processors. We saw AMD leading the performance charts by up to 44 percent.

Talking about the HX lineup, AMD also shared specifications for its AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, and Ryzen 9 5980HX. Both the processors will feature 8 cores with 16 threads, 20MB L2 and L3 cache, and 45W TDP. The 5900HX will offer a boost clock of up to 4.6GHz while the 5980HX will come with a boost clock of up to 4.8GHz. AMD claims that the 5900HX can go head-to-head with the Intel Core i9-10980HK.

The first set of Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors-powered laptops will hit the market next month in February 2021. It states that customers can expect “more than 150” Ryzen 5000 series mobile processor-powered systems this year. Beyond the Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors, AMD also launched its new Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 desktop processors at CES for OEMs. It also stated that customers can expect RDNA 2 on laptops in the coming months. Finally, it also showcased its third-generation AMD Epyc processors for servers with impressive performance claims.
