Am I Eligible for a Refund?

While it is possible to return a digital game or product on the Xbox Series X|S, there are some limitations. The two main factors that can affect the success of your refund request are as follows:

• You must request your refund within 14 days of the purchase date.
• You can’t have played the game in question for a significant amount of time.
• The term "significant amount of time" is not defined on the Microsoft's website.

Perhaps, it depends on the game. For example, If you return a 10-hour-long game after playing it for 5 hours, that's 50% of the total gameplay time. But if you have played 50 hours for 5 hours then it's just a fraction of the total gameplay time.

How to Request a Refund for a Digital Game Purchase

Requesting a refund for the digital purchase of a game is a cakewalk. It is very similar to refunding a purchase on the PS4 or the PS5. To initiate the process:

• Head to support.xbox.com
• Log in to the Microsoft account through which you made the purchase/
• Once you've logged in, scroll down to the Request availability. If there is a valid game there, click the box beside the title and press Request a refund to bring up the request form.
• Fill out your form by giving a suitable reason.
• Enter the email address of the Microsoft account you used to make the purchase.
• Press Next.
• Review your form to make sure all the details are accurate. Once you’re satisfied, press Submit.
• Your refund request will then be sent away for review, an estimated reply time is 72 hours.

Know Your Refund Status

After a successful refund application, you will a confirmation e-mail from Microsoft confirming this, and you will be able to see your refund being processed in your Microsoft account. To know the status of your refund head back to the website and click on My Microsoft Account and scroll down to Order History
