Discover how Battle Assist works in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Learn what each setting does, from Semi-Auto to Combo Assist, and when to turn them off for better gameplay control.

When you first fire up Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, you're told that Battle Assist is set to "Semi-Auto," and while that's helpful, the game doesn't dive deep into what it actually does. Let's break it down!

Battle Assist is a handy feature that helps ease you into the game by automating certain actions, giving you a chance to experiment with other mechanics without being overwhelmed. You can tweak it to your liking, or stick to the presets if you’re still finding your footing. Here's a look at what each setting does so you can get the most out of it!

How Battle Assist Works

Semi-Auto: The Default Mode

When you start the game, Battle Assist defaults to Semi-Automatic mode. In this mode, the game takes control of Guard and Recovery actions for you. This means your character will automatically block frontal attacks and recover after getting knocked around.

While this is useful when you're just starting, it can become more of a hindrance as you get better. For example, the automatic guard might mess up your Step timing when you’re trying to dodge, or interfere with advanced combo attempts. Once you're more comfortable, consider turning this off to gain full control of your movements and reactions.

Battle Assist Settings: Breaking It Down

Here’s a rundown of all the Battle Assist settings and how they work, so you can decide what to keep on or off.

Combo Assist

This setting helps clean up any incorrect inputs during combos. Sounds great, right? Well, it's not perfect and can sometimes mess up more complex combos, depending on the character. Use it if you’re still learning the ropes!

Follow-Up Assist

If you love chaining attacks, this one’s for you! Follow-Up Assist automatically performs a dash or teleport if you keep mashing the attack button after knocking an opponent away. It can be a little aggressive, so watch your timing.

Dragon Dash Assist

Want to zoom across the screen? Dragon Dash Assist automatically triggers a Dragon Dash if you move in one direction for five seconds. However, be careful—this burns through your ki and could leave you vulnerable if you’re not paying attention.

Dragon Dash Attack Assist

When you get close to an opponent while using Dragon Dash, this assist will automatically launch an attack. While it might seem cool at first, it can mess up your strategy, limiting your offensive options when you’re trying to approach with finesse. Use with caution!

Guard Assist

This setting automatically guards you from frontal attacks, which can be helpful in the beginning. However, it can throw off your dodging and Step timing, especially when you’re trying to pull off slick evasive moves. Advanced players may want to turn this off for better control.

Recovery Assist

When you're knocked to the ground or launched, Recovery Assist steps in to automatically help you get back into action. It’s a solid choice to leave on if you’re still working on your recovery timing.

Revenge Counter Assist

If you’re caught in a Rush Combo, this assist automatically triggers a Revenge Counter, provided you have enough Skill Count. While it can save you from a tight spot, it might waste your resources if you’re not careful. You may want to handle this one manually!

In Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Battle Assist can be a lifesaver for new players, but as you get more confident, some settings might actually hold you back. Play around with the options, figure out what works best for you, and tweak things as you level up your skills. Before long, you’ll be pulling off advanced combos and dodges like a pro!
