GTA 6 Cross Platform: Release Date & Crossplay: What Fans Can Expect in 2025

After the initial reveal trailer back in 2023, Rockstar Games has been frustratingly quiet, only giving us a vague 2025 release window. As 2024 wraps up, fans are getting antsy, searching for any hint of GTA 6 news—even joking about looking for clues in the night sky!

The Platforms: Where Can You Play?

From what we know, GTA 6 will drop on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The PC release hasn’t been confirmed yet, and this is making PC fans a little anxious. If Rockstar follows its pattern from GTA 5, PC gamers could face a longer wait—GTA 5 hit PCs 18 months after its console debut. 

 

 

GTA 6 and Crossplay: What We Know So Far

Here’s where things get tricky. Crossplay, or the ability to play with friends across different platforms, is one of the most requested features for GTA 6. Fans want to connect with friends on different systems, whether they’re on PlayStation, Xbox, or (eventually) PC.

But, if history is any guide, it’s a bit of a long shot. Neither GTA Online nor Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode has ever had crossplay, so players on each platform stay in their own ecosystem. For now, it looks like Rockstar isn’t rushing to change this.

Could Crossplay Happen?

There’s still a sliver of hope. With so many fans asking for it, Rockstar might surprise us. However, there’s a catch. GTA 5’s PC version has faced issues with cheaters, and Rockstar might be hesitant to merge platforms unless they’re sure they can handle any moderation challenges.

So, until Rockstar makes an official announcement, the best approach is to keep expectations in check and be pleasantly surprised if crossplay does happen.
