Metaphor ReFantazio Maximum Size: How Many Party Members Can Play

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, you start your journey with just the Protagonist and Strohl, but there are plenty of allies to join the adventure along the way. You’ll have seven main party members to work with, plus one extra who’ll only stick around temporarily. Here’s everything you need to know about party management, from setting up your squad to optimizing XP!

Party Member Limits: Choose Your A-Team

With so many companions, you’ll want to mix and match for the best lineup. You can only have four active members in combat at a time, which you set up in the party menu. Once you unlock the fifth member, you can start switching people out mid-battle using the Tactics menu. This lets you swap anyone on the front lines with someone in reserve, giving you flexibility in every fight. Just remember: active members gain more XP, so choose wisely!

 

 

Who’s in the Game (And Who Isn’t)

While everyone in your main roster can be activated for combat, Gallica is an exception. She appears in the party menu, but you can’t bring her into battle or change her gear. Think of her more as a supportive presence than a fighter.

Get the Most Out of Your XP

Worried about your reserve members falling behind? No problem—Metaphor: ReFantazio includes XP share for everyone, even those who aren’t on the front lines. However, it starts out pretty modest: reserve members only earn about half the XP compared to active fighters. Want to bump up that share? Level up their follower ranks to increase the XP they receive over time. With enough dedication, you can get your whole squad earning full XP even from the sidelines!

Level Up with Follower Ranks

The game encourages you to build up all party members, even those on standby. As their follower ranks rise, so does their reserve XP gain. Maxing out follower ranks means your reserves will earn just as much XP as the active members, keeping your whole team battle-ready.
