Yes You Can Change the Background on Your PS5, Know How

The PS5 introduces a departure from the customization options available on its predecessor, the PS4. One notable difference lies in the background settings: while PS4 users could freely change their console's background wallpaper, the PS5 automatically adjusts its background depending on the selected game or menu icon. This means users have no manual control over the background and must accept the system's automatic alternations.

Another notable absence on the PS5 is the lack of themes, a feature cherished by PS4 users for its ability to completely transform the console's interface. The absence of themes on the PS5 leaves users with fewer options for personalization, though there's optimism that Sony may introduce this feature in future updates to grant users more customization freedom.

Despite these limitations, PS5 users still have some avenues for personalization through their profiles. To access profile customization options, users need to navigate to their profile from the console's home screen and then select the edit option, typically represented by a pen icon. From there, users can modify their profile picture or avatar and their profile background.

For users who previously imported a background from their PS4, they have the option to either remove it or select a new image. They can also choose to customize their profile picture, either by selecting from a range of pre-made avatars or by uploading a custom image through the PS App.

While these customization options on the PS5 are more limited compared to the PS4, they still provide users with a degree of personalization. It's anticipated that Sony may introduce additional customization features in future updates to enrich the PS5 user experience.
