Blizzard dropped some major bombs, including a sweet new three-player co-op mode that's heading to Overwatch 2.
Guess what went down at Blizzcon 2023? Say goodbye to the usual 5v5 showdowns and get ready to experience Blizzard's FPS in a whole new light.
As always, Blizzcon was packed with epic updates for all their top games, like World of Warcraft and Diablo. This year, they didn't hold back, dishing out the deets on not one, not two, but three upcoming WoW expansions, and even spilling some juicy secrets about Diablo 4's very first DLC. And of course, Overwatch 2 was the talk of the town, especially since it's been over a year since it dropped and the Overwatch League Season wrapped up. The hype was real, and Blizzard definitely brought the heat!
At the recent Overwatch 2 reveal, Blizzard gave us the lowdown on their upcoming thrill ride, Hero Mastery: Gauntlet. This slick new three-player co-op mode is all about tower defense, with players banding together to take down waves of pesky bots targeting three key objectives. To even the odds, they can snag a range of power-ups, from game-changing air strikes to clutch group healing, all designed to keep the team in the fight.
The inspiration for this mode comes straight from the Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery arcade game, where players can flex their skills in specialized settings. And that's not all – Blizzard went the extra mile, treating fans to an exclusive sneak peek at the early gameplay footage of Hero Mastery: Gauntlet.
Blizzard didn't hold back at Blizzcon 2023, dropping not one but two major hero bombshells for Overwatch 2 fans. First up, the long-awaited tank hero Mauga finally enters the scene, bringing some serious muscle to the game's roster. Set to make a grand entrance in Overwatch 2 Season 8, slated for a December 5 launch, Mauga is sure to shake things up on the battlefield.
But that's not all – get ready to welcome the fiery, non-binary damage hero Venture to the mix in Overwatch 2 Season 10. Armed with a wicked drill weapon, Venture's gameplay promises to be a thrilling mix of offense and tactical retreats, with the ability to burrow underground and dodge those pesky opponents.
And that's not even the half of it! Game director Aaron Keller teased a brand-new game mode for Overwatch 2 called Clash, where teams will duke it out to capture five different objective points lined up in a row. The hype is real, especially with the first Clash map, Hanaoka, a spiced-up version of the fan-favorite Hanamura map from the OG Overwatch.
