ESPL Season 2: All you need to know about India's first franchise-based esports tournament

Open qualifiers are almost here and here's why ESPL Season 2 will be bigger, better, and more exciting than last year.

The return of ESports Premier League (ESPL) brings back India’s first franchise-based esports tournament. ESPL Season 2 is set to be bigger and better than last season with a larger prize pool and double the excitement. India Today Gaming’s nationwide esports tournament, the ESPL Season 2 will set the stage for India’s best esports teams to go head-to-head for glory. Teams from open qualifiers will also look to establish themselves as a strong contender for ESPL Season 2. Here’s everything we know about ESPL Season 2 ahead of the open qualifiers on Tuesday.

All you need to know about ESPL Season 2

If you’re a part of an aspiring BGMI esports team looking to prove yourself on the Battlegrounds, register now on the official ESPL website. Open qualifiers will see the top 2 teams qualifying for the tournament while teams ranked 3-12 will get a second chance to qualify in the wildcard qualifiers. India’s top teams will be playing in the invitational qualifiers which start on July 2. Season 2 of ESPL will feature a prize pool of Rs 1 crore including cash prizes for MVP, fan-favorite team, and most finishes by a squad.

ESPL franchises

ESPL was India’s first franchise-based esports tournament by India Today Gaming. The first season of ESPL saw esports teams competing in Free Fire as part of one of the 8 franchises including Hyderabad Hydras, Bangalore Ballistics, Rajasthan Reapers, Delhi Dukes, Punjab Paladins, Mumbai Marshals, Kolkata Kaijus, and Chennai Celestials. This year, the franchise esports will feature Battlegrounds Mobile India as the competitive game, and the number of franchise teams participating has increased to 16. 

Upcoming ESPL Season 2 will be sponsored by Tecno who will serve as the presenting sponsor. Tecno POVA 3 is arriving soon in India with Helio G88, up to 128GB storage, a 50MP camera, and up to 11GB RAM.
