PUBG Corp, the company responsible for the distribution of PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite has shared a significant announcement. As per the announcement, the company will be shutting down all its services and access to users in India. This means that players will no longer be able to play PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in India. The company notes that it will shut down access today, on October 30, 2020. Beyond the service and access shutdown, the company will also return the publishing rights to the owner of the PUBG IP. Let’s check out more information about the PUBG Mobile.

PUBG Mobile services shutting down today, details

The company made this announcement on the official Facebook account of PUBG Mobile India. This shutdown comes two months after the initial announcement of the PUBG Mobile ban in India. PUBG Corp notes that “protecting user data has always been” its top priority. It also went on to reiterated that PUBG “always complied with applicable data protection laws and regulations in India.”. The company stated that all the user data including the gameplay information was processed “in a transparent manner”. One could find all the details of the processes in the PUBG Mobile privacy policy.

It also expressed its regret around the ban of the game while thanking its fans for the support since the launch. Most fans thanked the company for the journey and the experience in the comments below the announcement. However, an extremely small portion of the comments also questioned the impact of this announcement on the game. These comments inquire if the players can continue to play the game from Asia servers. PUBG Corp did not reveal any details that addressed these concerns.

A few fans also asked if the company would start filtering out Indian IP addresses from the game after the shutdown. Unless the company takes these steps, the players can continue to play the game using the Asia servers with higher ping timings. If PUBG Corp goes ahead with strict enforcement, then players will either use other means (like VPN) to play the game. Otherwise, they will have to shift to one of the many PUBG Mobile alternatives available online. We would like to re-emphasize that playing PUBG Mobile is still against the law.
