Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake May Arrive Sooner Than Expected
After series fans enjoyed some fun swashbuckling, high seas adventures with Edward Kenway, it could be sooner rather than later that the pirate assassin makes an appearance again in this fan-favourite Assassin's Creed title.
Development Acceleration
The rumour mill has been circulating rumours about a remake for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag since early this year. Many fans and insiders initially thought this would be quite a few years away, but according to insider details, it may be here a lot sooner than any of us thought. According to reports, the game is already set way deep in development and may land before the general forecast had it set for a release.
Reports indicate that the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake, codenamed "Obsidian," was initially slated for release in November 2025. These plans may be further delayed, as the reported recent delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which sources claimed had kicked Ubisoft's entire content pipeline into disarray. However, the remake may still come out within the predicted five years from now.
This remake will be part of a larger plan by Ubisoft to expand the Assassin's Creed franchise, with ten titles planned in the near future. For the backlog, this would mean both the Assassin's Creed Jade, mobile-first release, and the multiplayer project, codenamed "Invictus," scheduled in the same window as the remake of Black Flag.
Gameplay and Engine Updates
See leaked gameplay footage—viewed behind closed doors for choice media outlets—of protagonist Edward Kenway, sailing across the high seas on a ship. Since the video is up, still strictly under wraps, excitement has built around the graphical overhaul and gameplay improvements fans can expect from this instalment of the series.
Community Reactions
The community is all abuzz with the possibility of revisiting the golden age of piracy but with modern visuals and refined mechanics. Social platforms reflect the hesitation, but cautious optimism, some putting concerns concerning Ubisoft's ability to balance its ambitious pipeline of upcoming Assassin's Creed titles without overextending their resources.
While Ubisoft's plans on Assassin's Creed may remain in limbo for a long time due to internal slowdown, the remake of Black Flag might arrive sooner than expected and revive one of the favourite instalments in the series.
But no matter if it's a few months or years ahead of its original timeline, we will be waiting eagerly to see which official word Ubisoft has in respect to this coming month.
