Gran Turismo 7 PC Port not in development, says Yamauchi on franchise's 25th Anniversary

Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of Gran Turismo 7, had earlier stated that a PC version of the game is being considered; but, according to a new report, this is not true. Here are all the details you need on the latest updates on Gran Turismo 7.

The first ever Gran Tursimo- The Real Driving Simulator launched back in 1997. That means, Gran Turismo 7 is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month. Therefore it’s time for that walk down the memory lane with the creators at Polyphony Digital, but it won’t be all rosy. Creator Kazunori Yamauchi has just dismissed the existence of the highly anticipated PC port of the latest installment from the series- Gran Turismo 7. Here’s more on these developments.

Gran Turismo celebrates 25th Anniversary

On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary, Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo franchise shared the news with a reminiscing message on the PlayStation blog. Yamauchi made special mention of the 90 million copies that the franchise has sold as was recorded back in November. Polyphony Digital has also launched a micro-film as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration. Check it out right here.

Latest Update on Gran Turismo 7 PC Port

Moving on to the latest update, for context, a PC port of the latest installment in the franchise, Gran Turismo 7, has been long awaited. The rumors around the same found new life last month, when different publications reported how Yamauchi is “considering” and “looking into” it. However the latest update will hopefully put these speculations at rest, for some time atleast.

Dengeki Online has informed after a recent interview with Yamauchi, who confirmed “that's not true". Apparently, it was misreported last month that a PC port of Gran Turismo 7 was in the works. Yamauchi has further explained his earlier statement on the PC port with “as a developer, we stay open to all possible options”. That doesn’t necessarily mean that a PC port is already in the works.

However, Yamauchi also said the following to Dengeki Online in a statement- “the probability for a Gran Turismo 7 PC version may not actually be zero, but if you want to know what we’re actually doing regarding a PC version, the answer is nothing. There’s nothing to talk about.” (as translated by GTPlanet forum).

Fans may be disappointed, but Yamauchi's statement does not imply that Gran Turismo 7 would never be released on PC. He did not rule out the possibility of a PC port. Regardless, we still have a lot from Gran Turismo to look forward to, including a movie slated for release next year
