Technology giant Qualcomm has just announced its next-generation flagship SoC (System on Chip) called Snapdragon 888. As part of the announcement, the company outlined the features of the chip including the new hardware and more. Checking the specifications, it comes with a new Adreno 660 GPU, and Kryo 680 CPU cores clocked at up to 2.84GHz. The processor is made using 5nm process technology along with full Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. Snapdragon 888 also comes with a second-gen sensing hub, Snapdragon X60 5G modem-RF system, support for mmWave, Sub-6 GHz, SA, NSA, FDD, and TDD. We also get new features like 5G PowerSave, Smart Transit tech, Wideband Envelope Tracking, Signal Boost adaptive antenna, and 5G multi-SIM support. Moving ahead in the specifications, the latest flagship SoC also comes with Wi-Fi 6E support and integrated Bluetooth v5.2. The company has also added its latest Qualcomm Spectra 580 ISP with support for up to 2.7 Gigapixels per second, up to 200-megapixel photos, and more. We also get support for 4K video at 120FPS capture, 4K HDR video capture, video super-resolution, and more. As per the announcement, the SoC also supports 4K at 60Hz and QHD+ at 144Hz panel with external support for 4K at 60Hz panel. Here, the Adreno 660 GPU will also support Vulkan 11 API, HDR gaming, OpenGL ES 3.2, hardware-accelerated H.265, and VP9 decoding.

In addition, the SoC also sports Quick Charge 5 technology with a new secure processing unit, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC, NFC, and more. Snapdragon 888 can support up LP-DDR5 at up to 3299MHz and LP-DDR4x at up to 2133MHz with up to 16GB capacity. Now, let’s check the gaming capabilities of this SoC to understand what to expect in next-generation flagship smartphones. First up, the Qualcomm Adreno 660 GPU will offer 35 percent faster rendering for graphics. In addition, the company is also trying to make the games more responsive with its latest technology called “Qualcomm Game Quick Touch”. Players can see an increase in responsiveness “by up to 20 percent”. Like the improved performance by the GPU, the new CPU core will also offer about 25 percent better performance and improved power efficiency. Along with the Quick Touch technology, the company has also added support to Variable Rate Shading (VRS) in the new SoC for “up to 30 percent performance improvement”. Both these improvements are part of its Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite gaming suite.
