The new and advanced console by Nintendo will be out soon!

Hey, don't start packing up your Switch just yet! According to Furukawa, the next Direct in June is all about celebrating our beloved console and the awesome games coming our way for the rest of 2024 and beyond—probably even spilling into 2025. But hold up, no need to get your hopes up for any "Switch successor" news at this event. Looks like it's gonna be a full-on Switch party, so let's enjoy the ride while it lasts!

Nintendo's May 7 earnings report brought long-awaited news about the company's next console. According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, an announcement for the successor to the Nintendo Switch is on the horizon, set to be shared "within this fiscal year." This means fans can anticipate hearing about it before March 31, 2025, the end of Nintendo's current fiscal year.

Nintendo dropped some big numbers in that earnings report! The Switch is still going strong, clocking in at a whopping 141.32 million units shipped. That's just a stone's throw away from the top spot held by the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2. Furukawa reminded us that it's been almost nine years since the Switch was first announced back in March 2015. Looking back at how things unfolded with the original Switch reveal trailer in October 2016, followed by the big launch in March 2017, it's got us thinking: Could we be in for a similar timeline with the Switch's successor? Time will tell, but it's always exciting to speculate!

Once the new Nintendo console finally makes its grand entrance, we'll be eagerly looking out for all the juicy details: How powerful will it be? What's the scoop on the screen? Will it stick with the hybrid concept? And, of course, the burning question: Will it be backward compatible with our beloved original Switch? Stay tuned, folks! The anticipation is real.
