The Witcher 4 marks the beginning of a new saga; CDPR reveals new updates on 'multiple Witcher games'

CD Projekt Red recently held a conference for the earnings of the first half of 2022, where CEO Adam Kicinski dropped multiple updates on The Witcher games, including the upcoming and fourth mainline game. Here's all the latest on The Witcher games.

CD Projekt Red, recently held a conference to announce the results for the first half of 2022. That means, we now have new updates on the game that fans are awaiting announcements on- the upcoming Witcher game, currently in development. But before we dive into that, we would like to mention that at present, the Poland-based developers have laid all their bets for the future on two of their IPs- The Witcher, and Cyberpunk. The developers have had a lot going on as we know, with their official shift to Unreal Engine 5, Cyberpunk 2077’s evolution, and the announcement of a new Witcher saga to mention a few. However, from what it looks like, this is only the beginning for these IPs, and both of them have a long life ahead. Therefore, let us now dive straight into the latest updates.

Everything we know about The Witcher 4, including latest update

To quickly recap, on 21st March, CD Projekt Red announced that they were working on a new Witcher game. From what was announced with an earlier teaser poster, this new Witcher game will be marking the “beginning of a new saga”. In the latest update, announced during the company’s latest conference, CEO Adam Kicinski announced that they have in mind “more than one game”. Kicinski said, “The first saga was three games, so now we are thinking about more than one game, but we are in pre-production of the first game from the second Witcher saga.” This follows their earlier update from May where Kicinski had announced that they had “concluded the research phase for the first game in the new Witcher saga.”

As for what this new Saga might be about, the teaser poster featured the picture of a medallion that fans were not familiar with. It was later confirmed to be a reference to the School of Lynx, which has till now not been dealt with in any of the games.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- latest news

We also got a new update about the upcoming next-gen launch of 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game which was originally scheduled for a 2021 launch, was delayed last year to the second quarter of 2022. It was delayed for a second time earlier in April this year, this time indefinitely. CEO Adam Kicinski has now announced that remaster is now “on track” for a quarter-four release in 2022 itself.

In other news, the earnings’ release also revealed the success that Cyberpunk 2077 was for the studio. Apparently, the game and the launch of its console versions can be primarily credited for having secured about 378 million PLN (or about $81 million) as revenue in the first half, 22. That’s quite the performance given that Cyberpunk 2077 was criticized for having been released as an “incomplete” and “glitchy” game. Clearly, the subsequently released updates did the trick. Additionally, CDPR also revealed the trailer of the upcoming Cyberpunk Expansion- Phantom Liberty. Check it out here.
