What's new in Multiversus? Keep reading to find out!

MultiVersus is stepping into the spotlight with its full release on May 28, after a year of tweaks and enhancements post-beta. As a free-to-play title, it leans heavily on its eclectic cast of characters, drawn from Warner Bros.' vast library, to lure players into its crossover brawls.

Developed by Player First Games and published by Warner Bros. Games, MultiVersus taps into a treasure trove of iconic IP, featuring everyone from Bugs Bunny to Superman, alongside surprises like Gizmo and original creations. And the roster isn't done growing yet!

Even before its official announcement in 2021, whispers and leaks about MultiVersus' gameplay and character lineup swirled online. Throughout 2022 and 2023, data miners dug into test builds, unearthing clues about potential fighters hidden in unused voice lines or buried deep within the game's code.

As MultiVersus gears up for its re-release on May 28, anticipation runs high for new content and characters. Here's a rundown of the confirmed playable characters in the game, along with some speculation on potential additions based on years of data mining. It's worth noting that leaked characters are not officially confirmed and may not make it into the final game, especially considering the age of some of these data mines.

The open beta of MultiVersus went offline to allow Player First Games to concentrate on completing the game's development. During its run, the beta featured 23 playable characters. Initially launched with 17 characters in 2022, the beta received several updates, with additional fighters introduced up until November 2022. The last character added during this period was Marvin the Martian.

This compiled list contains information gathered from various data mines, leaks, and popular rumors circulating before the official MultiVersus reveal in November 2021. It's important to note that none of this information has been confirmed by Player First Games or Warner Bros. Games. Instead, it's based on content shared within the game’s community, which may now be outdated and unreliable as of May 2024.

Additionally, alongside these data-mined characters, files for several other fighters were discovered in the game’s code at different times. These include characters like Naruto, Wreck-It Ralph, or Fix-It Felix from Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph movie series, and The Incredible Hulk, although their inclusion remains uncertain. Naruto and Hulk were originally featured within placeholder characters called Ninja and Brute.

There is speculation that Ted Lasso could appear either as a fighter or as part of an Announcer Pack, as actor Jason Sudeikis reportedly expressed interest. However, there may not be a representative from NetherRealm Studios due to creative differences with Player First Games regarding the portrayal of characters from Mortal Kombat. Additionally, discussions have been held about including Master Chief and "other popular characters" not featured in Super Smash Bros., including Eleven from Stranger Things.
