Steam Families: How to set it up for your family members

Before, Steam users had a couple of options for sharing games with family members: Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View. These features allowed users to link up accounts and enjoy games together without buying multiple copies, although there were some restrictions on when both accounts could access the games. But now, Valve has streamlined things by combining these features into a single, easy-to-use package.

  1. Setting up a Steam Family To start sharing your Steam games with family members, you'll need to create a Steam Family and invite their Steam accounts. Make sure your family members have their own Steam accounts before you begin. Here's how to set it up:
  • Log in to Steam and head to the Settings menu.
  • Under the Interface tab, find Client Beta Participation and opt into the Steam Families Beta.
  • Restart Steam as instructed.
  • Once Steam restarts, click on your profile at the top-right corner of the Steam window and choose Account details.
  • Select the Family Management tab and click on Create a Family.
  • Give your family a name and confirm your choice.

  • Click on Invite a member.
  • Choose the family member from your friends list or enter their Friend Code (available in their Account details).
  • The family member will need to confirm the invite through authentication (either email or the app).
  • Once confirmed, you're all set! You can then select which games you want your family to access and even designate them as Adult or Child to restrict access to certain features like Steam Community or Market.
