Valorant Agent Vyse Struggles in Competitive Debut at VCT 2024 China Ascension

Valorant's new agent Vyse, debuting in the VCT 2024 China Ascension tournament with XLG Esports, struggled to make an impact. Learn more about his performance, pick rate, and potential future adjustments.

The newly introduced Valorant agent Vyse, featured in patch 9.04, made his competitive debut during the VCT 2024 China Ascension tournament. XLG Esports, captained by Kr1stal (formerly of SCARZ), was the first to utilize Vyse, selecting him for Ascent as a substitute for the more typical KAY/O pick.

The team’s strategy aimed to capitalize on Vyse’s ultimate, Steel Garden, to prevent retakes after planting the spike, reminiscent of tactics employed with Deadlock.

However, Vyse’s debut did not go as planned. Facing a team running an aggressive composition with no sentinels and using Yoru and Neon as duelists, XLG Esports struggled on the attacking side. Despite a brief success in round 9, where Vyse’s ultimate was used after a spike plant in a 4v5 situation, the opposing team, ZYG, still managed a retake, leading to a 3-13 defeat for XLG.

In general, Vyse has yet to find a strong foothold in both casual and professional play, with his pick rate lingering around 3.5-4.0% and a win rate of approximately 48% according to BLITZ. His low pick and win rates suggest that his viability in high-level play is still being evaluated, and buffs may be necessary to enhance his impact in future matches.
