A Look Back: What Was Re:Verse?
Launched in October 2022, Resident Evil Re:Verse was developed to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. It offered a unique multiplayer experience where players could take on the roles of iconic characters from the series in free-for-all deathmatches. Upon death, players would transform into powerful bioweapons, adding a twist to the traditional gameplay.
Why the Shutdown?
Capcom stated that Re:Verse was developed as a celebratory title for the series’ milestone and believes it has “served its original, celebratory purpose admirably.” They expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from players since its release.
What Does This Mean for Players?
If you’re still enjoying Re:Verse, here’s what you need to know:
- In-Game Purchases: Any RP Boosters or content unlocked in the game’s Premium Pass will remain accessible until the servers shut down on June 29, 2025.
- New Players: If you’ve been curious about Re:Verse but haven’t tried it yet, you have until March 3, 2025, to download the game. After that, it will no longer be available for purchase.

Re:Verse had its share of ups and downs. Initially planned to launch alongside Resident Evil Village in 2021, it faced multiple delays before finally releasing in October 2022. Despite its unique gameplay and the nostalgia of playing as beloved characters, the game struggled with balance issues and a dwindling player base over time.
