Disney and Marvel Games Showcase 2022: All the game announcements and trailers

First look at Amy Hennig’s Marvel game was revealed during the first-ever Disney and Marvel Games Showcase.

The Disney and Marvel Games Showcase 2022, the first of its kind, came with plenty of announcements. A clear intent that Disney is looking to expand its reach in the gaming sector, there were several new games announced as well as updates to the existing Marvel and Disney games. We got our first trailer for Amy Henning's Marvel game, a surprise AR game announcement from Niantic featuring the Marvel universe, a Toy Story update for Disney Dreamlight Valley and much more. Amy Hennig’s Marvel game features Captain America and Black Panther in World War II

Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media have confirmed that their upcoming Marvel game will feature Captain America and Black Panther during World War II. This upcoming narrative-driven, ensemble adventure game will take players to Paris and Wakanda as confirmed locations.

The game's four playable heroes are described as “a young Steve Rogers, aka Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network.”

Marvel's Midnight Suns release date

Marvel’s Midnight Suns now has a new release date following an indefinite delay. It will be released on December 2, 2022 but no launch date for the Switch version was announced. There was also an announcement that a “set of five short videos that provide backstory on the formation of the young core of the Midnight Suns” will be released on October 31. 

Tron: Identity

Bithell Games, developer of Thomas Was Alone, have announced Tron: Identity. It is a new visual novel adventure which will tell the story of a “detective program tasked with solving the mystery of an unprecedented crime” called Query. Tron: Identity releases in 2023 for PC and consoles. 

Illusion Island

Disney Illusion Island is a new 2D platformer coming in 2023 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. The game features Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy on a journey to “explore the mysterious islands of Monoth and recover three mystical books to save the world from disaster.” Illusion Island will feature online and local co-op. 

Marvel World of Heroes

Pokemon GO developer Niantic will be releasing an AR game based on the Marvel universe. Marvel World of Heroes will be released in 2023. 

Avatar Reckoning

A new dev update trailer for the mobile MMO shooter was shown at the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase 2022. This trailer gave a brief look at the gameplay of this upcoming mobile game. 

Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap is an upcoming free-to-play collectible card game launching on October 18 for mobile and PC. The game offers over 150 Marvel heroes and villains and also claims that it will have a shorter average match time than other games in this genre. Pre-registration for Marvel Snap is now live. 

Return to Monkey Island 

Return to Monkey Island has received a new trailer at the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase ahead of its release on September 19 which is also Talk Like a Pirate Day. 

Gargoyles Remastered 

The classic 90s platformer Gargoyles is being remastered and will be arriving on consoles and PC. Gargoyles was originally released in 1995 on Sega Genesis. There was unfortunately no trailer shown for this announcement.

Disney Dreamlight Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley will be adding a new playable area to the game. It will be the Toy Story realm that will also introduce Buzz Lightyear and Woody to the game. There will also be new quests available with the arrival of this update. 

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be adding Cassian Andor, Reva, Captain Rex, and more to the game with the launch of its Galactic Edition on November 1. 

Disney Speedstorm 

Disney Speedstorm received a new trailer ahead of its unannounced release date. New characters were the focus as Sulley and Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. were confirmed as part of the racing game. 

Disney Mirrorverse

Disney Mirrorverse is a free-to-play action RPG game coming to mobile. It will feature various heroes and villains from Disney’s universe who will combine forces against the ultimate dark force. This October, new villains including Hades will be making their way to the game.

Marvel Strike Force

Marvel Strike Force has announced that Red Hulk is coming to the mobile RPG game on September 13. He will be eligible to be recruited as “Apocalypse’s newest Horseman of War.”
