Fallout New Vegas sequel not in development, but new installment not off the table, claims Obsidian CEO

Obsidian CEO comments on rumored sequel to Fallout New Vegas, and opens up making another Fallout game. New Vegas Director Josh Sawyer also doesn't disregard chances of working on a new Fallout game. Here are all the details.

The latest official update on Fallout was on the Amazon Prime TV series and a next-gen update for Fallout 4. But it’s been some time since the last installment from Bethesda back in 2018. Fallout 5 is currently in development, but will it be concluding the series?

Rumors are doing the rounds that that is not going to be the case, but we have some official update on the same from Feargus Urquhart. Urquhart is the CEO of Obsidian Entertainment, who developed 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. He says, that he has plans of making one more fallout game before his retirement. Here’s more on the latest on Fallout from Feargus Urquhart.

Obsidian CEO wants to make another Fallout

Feargus Urquhart is a veteran in the Fallout franchise. He worked as a creator on the first two Fallout games from 1997 and 1998, during his time at Interplay and Black Isle. The spin-off from 2010, Fallout New Vegas, was developed at Obsidian where Urquhart is the CEO. Urquhart has now put rumors of the unannounced Fallout game in development at peace, in an interview with Game Pressure. However, the game isn’t exactly off the charts.

Urquhart confirmed that Obsidian is not working on a new Fallout, or any sequel to Obsidian’s Fallout New Vegas. He said, “We’re not working on Fallout, and we haven’t even talked about what it would be”. He further explained that Obsidian is currently packed with ongoing projects like Avowed, Grounded and Outer Worlds 2. So, they shouldn’t be able to start talking about new games anytime before the “end of next year”.

Talking about this new Fallout game, Urquhart claimed, “There’s nothing in the plans, nothing on the piece of paper that says that”. However, he went on to mention that he would “love to make another Fallout” before he retires. He says, “My hope is that’ll happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.” Clearly he’s baiting his date of retirement from video game creation for this with “ I don’t know when that is, I don’t have a date of my retirement.”.

Fallout New Vegas Director Josh Sawyer on a new installment

Josh Sawyer, the Director of Fallout New Vegas also said that he could see himself working on Fallout again. He said the following in a statement to Kinda Funny Games, “I love Fallout, I love the setting, I could see myself working in it again, but you know, we’ll see where the future takes me”. As for the setting, Sawyer thinks that New Orleans or California, or the Midwest would be “very interesting”.
