Niantic Labs, the maker of POKEMON GO and Pikmin Bloom has launched an AR-based Pet Simulation game titled Peridot on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The fanciful virtual creatures known as Peridots, or Dots, have unusual genetic makeups and have a remarkable understanding of their environment. They require the assistance of Keepers to take care of them after emerging from a long period of sleep to find a world that is very dissimilar from the one they are used to.

One can develop a strong relationship with these virtual pets just like with a real one. Pet, play fetch, feed, teach them tricks, go on adventures with them, dress them up, and take endearing pictures and videos of the two of you.

The game has been developed using the Lightship AR platform with an objective to bring an immersive augmented reality into gaming. According to Niantic, the game also uses Perigenetics system to generate 100% unique DNA of the creatures. There are "2.3 x 1024" possible outcomes. Players will find distinctive Archetypes, some of which mimic both real animals and fantastical creatures, as more Dots are produced.

By hatching new Dots, you can gradually learn about Peridot Archetypes, acquire uncommon Traits, and uncover Personality traits. Discover a wide variety of creature appearances, including Archetypes that mimic both mythological and real creatures, such as the Yeti, Ram, Unicorn, Peacock, and Cheetah. Additional Archetypes will be added over time and during special gaming events. Work together with other players to find uncommon Traits, some of which are much rarer and more difficult to obtain.

Additionally, Amazon Anywhere will be introduced in the game, this feature will link Amazon shopping to buy Peridot merchandise in the real world through an in-game store.

Niantic also shared its long-term vision on the newly launched Peridot. The company said that the game would not be kept limited to mobile, but ultimately on wearable MR or AR glasses, as well as on future AR gear.
