In-Game Events

They are sure to come back as limited-time game modes much like Season 2’s Winter Wonderland and Lunar New Year Events. Rewards and Credits

The event-rewards will be improved upon to make them feel more rewarding and exciting for all players. Blizzard announces that an event in Season 3, will offer players an all-new legendary skin. Also, starting Season 4, Blizzard intends to offer new items as rewards for most big events.

Overwatch Credits are to make a comeback with Season 3, with a chance to earn up to 1500 credits as free rewards. Premium rewards will get you up to 500 credits via the Season 3 battle pass.

Changes to match-making and competitive mode

In Season 3 competitive play will reduce the number of wins between competitive updates from 7 to 5 wins, and 20 to 15 for losses. Additionally, similarly ranked players will be matched within each role.

Changes to Hero Gallery

You will soon be able to use Overwatch Coins or Credits to get access to all the epic and legendary-tier skins that were released before the launch of Overwatch 2. The Hero Gallery will thus permanently feature skins from the seasonal event modes like Witch Mercy, Surf 'N' Splash Torbjörn, and Snowman Wrecking Ball. Additionally, the base price of these legendary skins will be lowered to 1500 Coins or credits.

Blizzard also mentions how they plan to revamp their “on fire” system to celebrate the players’ performance within the match. They are also reportedly working on a hero-based progression system, “that would showcase the energy players put into playing each hero and mastering their different capabilities.” Regardless, these are the long-term plans for Overwatch 2 and Blizzard mentions that they are subject to change.
