The PUBG maker Krafton has just shared their vision and plans for 2023 in a release titled, “The Direction Krafton is Heading in 2023”. From what we’ve gathered, Krafton is currently looking to expand its business around their flagship IP of PUBG. This includes titles like the PC game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), PUBG Mobile and BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India). That’s not all, Krafton is now also looking at expanding into “new key businesses” like the metaverse. Here are all the details you need to know about Krafton’s projects of 2023.

Krafton shares plans with PUBG

CEO CH Kim has stated in a statement that their ultimate vision is to “secure and expand powerful game-based IPs”. In the press release which was also directed towards Krafton’s employees, they mentioned how they plan to continue focusing and broadening their new businesses such as deep-learning and AI, around the PUBG: Battlegrounds IP. For us gamers that would imply a better game experience with the different IPs of Krafton like PUBG: Battlegrounds, PUBG Mobile and BGMI.

Krafton has also shared about its interest in second-party publishing, along with their in-house studios. The recent title The Callisto Protocol was for example developed by Striking Distance Studios. However, Krafton continued to publish the game. So with this official statement, we can expect more of such titles from Krafton.

We already know of Project M, revealed earlier last year. Project M is the first game from Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds, ever since they were acquired by Krafton. Additionally Krafton has also revealed a project based on  the fantasy novel ‘The Bird That Drinks Tears’.

Krafton wants to expand into metaverse

The most striking revelation however would be Krafton’s continued interest in expanding into the metaverse. In a statement, Krafton shared, “Under the assumption that growth cannot be guaranteed without investment in the future, the company will continue developing and investing mainly in new key businesses”. New key businesses here are referring to “metaverse and deep learning”.

Krafton had unveiled the virtual human Ana last year. Additionally, their plans of creating a VR headset and entering the gaming equipment development industry has also been known for some time now.
