The Last of Us Season 2- Announcement Details

The Variety quotes executive producer Neil Druckmann who reportedly said, “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations”. He went on to add, “Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you!”

Neill Druckmann is also the co-president of Sony PlayStation’s Naughty Dog, which developed the video game series of The Last of Us. Druckmann was also the writer and the creative director for the games, including The Last of Us Part 1 on which the HBO series is based. Naturally, a Season 2 was expected by fans as an adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2.

However, executive producer Craig Mazin was earlier reported saying that a TV adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2 would take more than a season to cover. Which means, that a Season 3 is also “likely”, as also confirmed by Druckmann and Bella Ramsey, who plays the character of Ellie in the HBO  series.

About the renewal of The Last of Us with the second season, Mazin spoke to The Variety. He said “I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey. The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.”
