World’s fastest desktop processor is here: Intel launches 13th Gen Core i9-13900KS

Here's the catch: It is a very power-consuming desktop processor.

Intel today globally launched the new 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900KS desktop processor. At this point, it is the world’s fastest desktop processor as it game the first-ever to deliver up to 6.0 gigahertz (GHz) max turbo frequency out of the box. Without overclocking, this processor is the first-ever to cross that threshold at stock.

There’s also the Adaptive Boost Technology feature which allows gamers to utilise “higher multicore turbo frequencies”. In a nutshell, that allows users to push the processors further so as to churn out more efficiency in their gaming setup.

The 13th Gen Core i9-13900KS desktop processor has a total of 20 PCIe lanes split between PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 lanes. There are 16 PCIe 5.0 lanes and four PCIe 4.0 lanes.

This processor also has a 250W base power specification. Notably, it’s also the most power-hungry desktop CPU in history with a peak 320W power consumption through the new Extreme Power Delivery Profile, as highlighted by Tom’s Hardware.

As for the memory, there’s support for up to DDR5 5600 MT/s and DDR4 3200 MT/s. It’s also compatible with Z790 and Z690 motherboards. Intel has made their special edition processor available globally starting January 12. Intel has set the recommended customer price point at $699. Gamers can find it as a boxed processor and they can also find it integrated into systems by Intel’s various OEM partners.
