Sunrise unveils new Xabungle clip using modern tech at Shizuoka Hobby Show and on YouTube.

Sunrise has released a new animated short called BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE L on their official YouTube channel. The trailer brings back to life the legendary mecha anime Blue Gale Xabungle, which aired in 1982-1983. This work is one of the series projects of the current Sunrise Robot Laboratory, a development project initiated by Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Classic Scenes Reimagined

The new short brings the pivotal moments from the original show to life in contemporary animation styles. It is also presented with the original opening and closing theme songs, sung by Akira Kushida, adding a sense of nostalgia to old fans. The video unites old and new, praising the heritage of a favorite title and highlighting present visual innovations.

A Continued Collaboration

BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE L is the second title in the Sunrise Robot Laboratory series. The initial one, AURA BATTLER DUNBINE SIDE R, was released in November 2024. Both were produced in association with Kamikaze Douga, a renowned studio for its unique animation style.

A Cultural Interpretation of Mecha

Sunrise Robot Laboratory was founded on May 8, 2024, with the vision of investigating the mechanical designs present in Sunrise's rich history of robot anime. The intention is to show these designs from different artistic and conceptual viewpoints, while advancing the wider popularity of Japanese animation culture worldwide.

Aside from online streaming, BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE L is also being presented at the 63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show, which opens today, May 14. Its screening here gives guests the chance to experience the short in a special exhibition venue, which once again underscores its technical craftsmanship and thematic richness.
