Clear and Crisp sound is one of the most important aspects of any game. That's why any error or issue related to sound is a big bummer. Xbox One controller not recognizing the headset is a very common glitch that deteriorates our gaming experience. There can be multiple reasons why your controller isn't connecting to the headset. These can range from poor connectivity to software and hardware issues.  Here are some common and easy fixes to help you troubleshoot the Xbox One controller that isn't recognizing your headset.

Ensure the Proper Connection

First and foremost check whether everything is connected properly. Make sure that your headset's 3.5mm audio jack is firmly inserted into the Xbox One controller's headset port.

If your Xbox One controller doesn't possess a 3.5mm port, ensure the adapter you have placed in between is properly connected.

You should also make sure that your controller is properly connected to your Xbox One gaming system to ensure proper headset recognition.

An improper connection will be signified by a flashing Xbox button. Once all the connections are properly checked, press the Xbox button on your console and go to Audio & music to ensure that the headset isn't muted.

Check Headset on Other Device

To figure out if the problem is with your headset or controller, try testing them with different hardware. Connect your headset to a laptop or a smartphone to check if it's working. If you have access to another pair of headphones, you can also connect them to your controller and see if they work.

Update Your Controller

Outdated firmware versions can also sometimes cause compatibility issues. to resolve this issue try updating your Xbox One controller. You can update your Xbox One controller both wirelessly and via a USB cable.

Reset Your Xbox

The last option to fix the headset recognition issue is to reset your Xbox One or Series X|S if none of the previous methods were successful. Xbox provides two types of reset options: Soft Reset and Hard Reset.

Soft reset just changes the settings of the controller and keeps games safe as it is while hard reset removes everything in the controller. To perform the hard reset follow the steps mentioned below:

Turn on the Xbox console and press the Xbox button to open the guide menu.

In the guide menu go to System click on Settings then click on System and select Console info.

In the Console info tab, click Reset Console.

From the Reset your console menu, select Reset and keep my games & and apps.

Wait for the process to complete, and then see if the problem is resolved.
