Discover Activision's powerful 'RICOCHET' anti-cheat system, devised to tackle hackers in Call of Duty. Explore its evolution, successes, and impact on the gaming community, as Season 5 approaches.

Activision released their specifically designed 'RICOCHET' anti-cheat system in 2021 in an effort to take the fight straight to the hackers. Call of Duty has been fighting cheaters for more than ten years. The system has undergone numerous revisions over the years, including enhancing cheat detection, preventing wrong players from inflicting damage or experiencing hallucinations, and banning hardware for repeat offenders.

Activision has not only used the anti-cheat programme to target violating players but has also attacked the cheat manufacturers' source of origin. Activision billed EngineOwning's leading service $3 million in damages in October 2022. Large-scale public examples like these have demonstrated that they significantly lessen the threat by catching cheaters in the act and serve as a lesson for present and future hackers.

Due to the findings of their investigations into hacking software developers, approximately 14,000 accounts have been banned in the most recent wave of banning. Due to customers being unable to log in, several sources think that this is connected to accounts using prominent cheating services EngineOwning and InterWebz.

Why are the bans being enforced now?

Activision has been preparing for the next Season 5 update, which will be available for both the primary Modern Warfare II game and Warzone 2 starting on August 2, 2023. It is crucial for the developers to make sure that the game's integrity is kept and prepared for the flood of players upon release due to the controversy in the community still surrounding Call of Duty's hacking.

Maps, weapons, game modes, and operators for both standard multiplayer and Warzone will be part of the brand-new wave of content that Season 5 will release.
