Alegre’s contract will expire on March 31, 2023, and it is reported that he’s leaving Activision Blizzard for “another opportunity”.
Activision Blizzard president and COO Daniel Alegre is stepping down from his position in the company at the end of his contract. Alegre’s contract will expire on March 31, 2023, and it is reported that he’s leaving Activision Blizzard for “another opportunity”. Alegre joined Activision Blizzard in 2020 after leaving Google where he was the president of global retail and shopping.

A new 8K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission revealed the information, as reported by Gamesindustry.biz. The filing mentioned that Alegre is looking for a change when his contract expires next in March. This is most likely due to the proposed acquisition of the company by Microsoft. The deal worth $69 billion was supposed to be completed by March of next year.
Activision Blizzard has come under a lot of fire for its management after a series of allegations about the toxic workplace and sexual harassment came to light this year. Since then, several executives have departed from the company and Alegre will be the latest to join that list, come March 2023.
Microsoft’s proposed Activision Blizzard deal faces FTC lawsuit
Microsoft’s proposed $69 acquisition might take longer than March to be completed though. They’ve hit a roadblock as the FTC has filed a lawsuit to block this deal on anti-competitive grounds. Since Microsoft’s acquisition of the Call of Duty publisher can give them total control over one of the most popular game franchises, FTC has decided to block the deal. Microsoft has repeatedly and publicly committed to keeping Call of Duty available for all platforms including Sony’s PlayStation. They even proposed a 10-year deal to Sony to legally bind themselves to this commitment.
Elsewhere, Xbox announced that they’ll bring Call of Duty finally to Nintendo, once their deal with Activision Blizzard King is completed. It was part of the announced 10-year deal between Xbox and Nintendo.
