Activision Blizzard takes legal action on COD cheat maker Raging Nation, making the site to stop operating.

Call Of Duty cheat makers are at a spot now. On July 29, Activison has lodged a decisive action against Raging Nation, a popular game cheats provider for Call of Duty. On account of this incident, Raging Nation has announced that it would cease operations. After the legal notice, although the company contested the notice’s claims, they still decided not to pursue legal action due to Activision’s significant influence. 

Raging Nation used to provide a significant number of cheating tools for Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, including uses like automatic aiming, weapon unlocking and instant item acquisition. Some of their cheats also claim to be “anti-live broadcast detection”, particularly for players who want to use cheats during live broadcasts without being caught.

It is noteworthy that earlier this year, Activision Blizzard filed a lawsuit against another cheat maker, EngineOwning, for contravention and eventually they won the case, receiving up to US$14.5 million as compensation.

Despite Raging Nation did not reveal Activision’s legal claims, its website has been totally cleared and its cheats biz has come to an end. The company said in a statement that this was a last resort they could come up with and hence they had to stop operating. 

There are no specific laws forbidding cheating in video games. What companies can do is to combat hackers primarily through the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). This act prohibits bypassing technological measures to access copyrighted material. By far, this approach has proven to be the most effective against such malicious cheat wares.

The fight against cheaters involves multiple strategies including legal actions, anti-cheat software and even the support of the entire gaming community and the players themselves.
