Apex Legends breaks the previous player count records on Steam with the launch of Season 16. The return of Team Deathmatch could be a reason for the hike.

Apex Legend's concurrent player count on Steam has increased significantly, setting a new record of over 610,000 gamers logged in simultaneously. The player count is said to have increased after the launch of Season 16, 'Revelry'. A possible reason for the increase in the player count can be credited to the return of ‘Team Deathmatch’ in the game.
Apex Legends has crossed 610,000 player count on Steam
Season 16 of Apex Legends saw the player count reaching 610,433 players on Steam, all logged in at the same time, as on February 15, 2023, according to SteamDB. This player count does not include those playing over consoles, PC, or any other device. So the actual number of gamers playing the game would be even more significant.
The previous peak in the concurrent player count on Steam was at the beginning of Season 14, which was 511,676 players logged in simultaneously. This count was also noticeably huge, which was toward the end of the year 2020.
It is uncommon to see such a boost in the number of players at the start of a season in Apex Legends, but given that the Team Deathmatch mode has been reintroduced, this increase makes sense. Moreover, this is the first time that Respawn’s battle royale didn’t bring any new Legend in the game on the launch of a new season.
Team Deathmatch has been introduced in Season 16 ‘Revelry’. It can be credited as one of the major reasons for the increase in the player count. Aside from that, Respawn has added new content to the game as well as other quality-of-life improvements.
Team Deathmatch
The 3v3 arena mode in Apex Legends has been replaced by the Team Deathmatch mode at the advent of Season 16 in the game. Team Deathmatch is a 6v6 game mode in Apex Legends in which the team which gets 50 kills first wins the match.
Players will be directed to a game of Team Deathmatch automatically for three weeks. Following that, the mode will be added to Apex Legends' Mixtape playlist, which will include Team Deathmatch, Gun Run, and Control.
