  • November 21, 2022 (UPDATED: November 21, 2022 13:24 IST)

Krafton has published its Q3 earnings and finally addressed BGMI and its ban in India.

Battlegrounds Mobile India was banned in India on 28 July 2022. Since then, the most popular battle royale mobile game in India has been removed from Google and Apple’s app stores. While the game is still accessible to those who had it installed before the ban, there have been no updates coming since the game is officially banned in the country.

Krafton is trying to bring BGMI back, says Q3 report

There have been various reports coming in almost every day about a potential return for India’s beloved battle royale, the game is yet to officially return. Ever since the ban, Krafton has hardly mentioned the situation and fans have eagerly waited for positive news from the developer’s end.
Krafton has published its Q3 earnings and finally addressed BGMI and its situation in India. The press release from Krafton said, “KRAFTON is continuing its efforts to resume services for BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) and will continue investing in the Indian games market.”

While that doesn’t point towards anything definitive, fans can certainly rejoice that at least Krafton has publicly acknowledged the game once again and has stated that they’re continuing their efforts to bring it back. This does offer substantial and renewed hope to BGMI fans who await the official return of Battlegrounds Mobile India.

BGMI still playable in India, but without new updates

While BGMI is still playable in India, there are limitations attached. For starters, players will not be receiving the 2.2 update in India. The game’s Global variant, PUBG Mobile, is currently hosting a FIFA World Cup event in-game featuring the likes of Messi and Neymar. BGMI players in India are still on the 2.1 update and unable to access the new content and updates coming to the battle royale.

Apart from the BGMI update, Krafton’s earnings call showed that they suffered losses in Q3. PUBG: Mobile revenue fell by 26 per cent year-over-year and it is also going down by 12 per cent quarter-over-quarter.

New studio to be set up for The Bird That Drinks Tears

Krafton’s The Callisto Protocol is on course for its release on December 2, as confirmed by the Q3 report. Krafton also announced that they’ll be establishing a new major studio in Canada that will head the development of The Bird That Drinks Tears project. The Bird That Drinks Tears game will be based on the four-volume fantasy series of the same name, written by Lee Yeongdo.
