Electronic Arts have announced that both Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile will be shut down. The company is also shutting down Battlefield Mobile developer Industrial Toys. The studio was led by Bungie founder and former CEO Alex Seropian.

Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile cancelled

Apex Legends Mobile was launched in May 2022 and it was even named the App Store and Google Play game of the year. Battlefield Mobile was still in soft launch at the time of cancellation. EA said of Battlefield Mobile, “As the industry has evolved and our strategy to create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem has taken shape, we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players.”

As for Apex Legends Mobile, the servers will go offline at 4 pm PT on May 1, 2023. That’s 4 am on May 2 in India.

EA released a statement to address this cancellation. “At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding,” said EA on Wednesday.

“Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.”

“It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game,” added EA.

EA continued, “Although disappointing, we are proud of the game we launched, are grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and are confident that this is the right decision for players.”

Respawn Entertainment also posted an announcement on their socials, saying that the decision comes due to “factors beyond our control”.

Apex Legends Mobile will return, says CEO

CEO Andrew Wilson said during EA’s third-quarter earnings call that Ea has learnt a lot from its experience with the game and they have “plans to reimagine a connected Apex Legends Mobile experience in the future”.
