Update: Fortnite has released update v23.20 and the servers are now live. Earlier, some players were facing login issues but it has now been resolved.

Epic Games has scheduled the next Fortnite update v23.20 for today and it will be going live in some hours. Before the update goes live, Fortnite servers will experience downtime and hence, matchmaking will be disabled until then. This update process will start at 4 am ET  / 1 am PT / 9 am GMT / 2:30 pm IST. Currently, the Fortnite servers are down.

Fortnite has confirmed that the update is live and the servers are now functioning once again. There was a brief login issue faced by players where they were getting a "Successfully logged out" error when they tried to get onto the game. That login issue has now been resolved. UPDATE (January 18th 6:40 PM IST): Fortnite releases update v23.20 but players are facing login issues

While the update is now officially live, some players are currently unable to access the game. Epic Games has acknowledged the issue on Fortnite Server Status social media account and are currently working on resolving the issues. Some players are currently getting the "Successfully logged out" error when trying to log on to Fortnite.

Matchmaking was also disabled at 3:30 am ET so as to avoid issues with the update and so that players don't lose their progress in Save The World mode or get sent back to the lobby in-between a battle royale match.

How long does Fortnite downtime take

Usually, downtime doesn't last longer than three hours but update v23.20 could take longer since it's a major update. This is the first big update received in Fortnite since the Winterfest 2022 update. Expect a lot of new features, removal and changes by the development team.

Recently, the Shockwave Hammer was removed from the game and now a sliding glitch was also discovered. There have been various issues of broken mechanics and weapons that players have been facing. It's likely that the update will try and put a stop to those exploits and perhaps bring back these items so that they can be fairly used. This update and its implementation may take around four hours or more before the servers are online again.
