Gear-up for nostalgia as Need for Speed: Most Wanted remake hints surface

  • August 10, 2023 (UPDATED: August 10, 2023 15:36 IST)

The Need for Speed: Most Wanted remake rumours ignited by unexpected source. Actress Simone Bailly's Instagram post triggers excitement and scepticism within the gaming community.

Few games in the history of classic racing games have made as big an impression as Need for Speed: Most Wanted did when it debuted in 2005. It's not surprising that fans have been anticipating news of a remake given the scene’s thrilling police chases, high-octane street racing, unforgettable soundtrack, and campy live-action sequences. The racing community is buzzing after hearing recent rumours from an unexpected source.

Speculations sparked by actress Simone Bailly's mysterious Instagram post

Known for playing Sgt. Jonathan Cross' nameless companion in the first game, actress Simone Bailly made a stir when she posted a statement on social media, which she then quickly erased. She wrote in her post, “Need for Speed: Most Wanted Remake is being released in 2024,” and invited fans to comment on their thoughts about the return of the legendary team.

While the removed post might have increased suspicion, questions are raised by the timing and source of the information. Gamers who crave to recreate the heated rivalries and heart-pounding pursuits that made Most Wanted a classic feel a mixture of doubts and hope as a result of this unexpected revelation that takes place during the game's golden age.

Great timing for a comeback

It couldn't have been more convenient for a remake to be considered. While other racing series are moving towards realism and simulation, a resurrected Most Wanted would fill a nostalgic void for a mix of arcade fun and exciting chases. The game industry is primed for such a resurrection, as fans yearn for the elements that defined the franchise's prime to return.

But possible barriers are there. It's difficult to obtain licences for the original game's wide variety of vehicles and legendary soundtrack. Changes might be required, which could have an impact on how authentic the game is. In order to deliver both the cherished components of the original and a novel experience that appeals to contemporary gamers, developers would need to carefully traverse these obstacles. The 2005 version of Most Wanted was more than simply a game, it was a historical event that introduced dynamic police pursuits around a vast world. Some claim that the game even had a hand in the development of Grand Theft Auto IV's ‘Wanted Level’ feature.

The internet gaming community is anticipating the remake even though neither EA nor Criterion Games have formally confirmed it. Players are eagerly awaiting news that will either confirm their hopes of returning to Rockport's streets or calm their building excitement.
