Grammy Awards finally adds a category for video games and the nominees features Call of Duty and Marvel's Guardian's of the Galaxy

The Grammy Awards finally have a new category, dedicated to soundtracks from video games and interactive media. The Recording Academy announced this category earlier this year and we now have the nominees for the first-ever Grammy category for video games.

Video games have found their way to Grammy nominations in the past but there’s never been a category dedicated to soundtracks from video games. We’ve even had video game soundtracks taking home the coveted prize by competing in the general categories. Journey won Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media back in 2013. Most recently, Kirby song “Meta Knight’s Revenge” won the 2022 Grammy Awards in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or A Cappella category. 

Austin Wintory, who already has a Grammy to his name for thatgamecompany's Journey, has been nominated once again. However, this time the nomination is in a category dedicated to video games and interactive media. 

Here are all the nominees for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media:

2. Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok (Stephanie Economou)
3. Call Of Duty: Vanguard (Bear McCreary)

Elden Ring not nominated for a Grammy

The eligibility criteria for 2023 Grammy Awards states that the releases have to fall between October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022. Hence, the Grammy doesn’t include God of War Ragnarok and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Interestingly, Grammy’s jury has not selected Elden Ring in this category, which has been nominated for Best Score and Music as well as Best Audio Design at the Game Awards 2022.

The 65th edition of the Grammy will be taking place on February 5, 2023.
