On 1st March, Sony PlayStation unveiled the PlayStation 5 console cover and DualSense wireless controller, made in collaboration with NBA star LeBron James. Pre-orders are now live for these custom accessories. Here’s everything you need to know about PlayStation Playmakers, and the latest collaboration with LeBron James.
PlayStation Playmakers Details
PlayStation Playmakers was announced on 27th February. It is a program where cultural influencers who are “passionate PlayStation fans” have partnered with Sony PlayStation to “ celebrate their passion for gaming and PlayStation, provide early looks and behind-the-scenes access, and offer unique experiences for fans.”
LeBron James PlayStation collaboration
While LeBron James needs no introduction, Eric Lempel, the SVP and Head of Global Marketing at SIE describes James as “ sports icon, philanthropist, entrepreneur”. Earlier, we also spotted LeBron James as a part of God of War’s “All Parent Can Relate” campaign, alongside his son Bronny. Evidently both LeBron and Bronny are “big God of War fans”, as put by Lempel.
Here’s how LeBron James gushed about his latest collaboration with Sony PlayStation- “It’s still crazy to think a kid from Akron who grew up playing games is getting to create something like this. Designing a console cover and controller with PlayStation that gives a nod to my I Promise students and where we come from is a pretty cool thing.”
The DualSense controller and console cover come with iconic quotes of LeBron James like “Nothing is given, everything is earned”, “Chosen Ones”, and “Build Uplift Empower”. The controller also pays a tribute to “I Promise”, the Akron school established by LeBron and his book of the same name.
The new PlayStation 5 accessories are however launching in limited release across selected countries around the world. We still don’t know if they will be available for pre-orders here when they go live later this year. As for the other confirmed personalities collaborating as a part of PlayStation Playmakers, they include Jimmie Allen, King Bach, Nigel Sylvester, NaLyssa Smith, Ja’Marr Chase, CeeDee Lamb, Lisa Zimouche, Romelu Lukaku, and Julio Cocielo.
