Nintendo's best-selling gaming franchise hopes to maintain its global dominance with younger generations after the record-breaking Mario movie debuted in theatres earlier this year and set a new record for the largest global animated movie debut.
Since bursting onto the gaming scene in 1983, everyone's favourite plumber has produced games for players of all ages in a variety of genres. Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Super Mario Bros. are the three most popular video game franchises.
Nintendo's most valuable asset appears to be going back to its roots; in the company's most recent game, after more than ten years, it makes another appearance and embarks on new adventures in a 2D platformer. The new video game Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be published on October 20, 2023, according to information provided by creators at the Nintendo Direct event on July 21.
This time, Nintendo will let players explore the constantly shifting landscape that responds erratically as a result of the mystical Wonder Flower either single or cooperatively with up to four people.
The reveal trailer displayed a variety of fresh foes Mario would encounter throughout the course of the upcoming game. Fans were eager to learn who the major antagonist will be because it was not made clear.
Who is the much-anticipated bad guy?
The planned comeback of the infamous villain ‘Bowser’ comes as no surprise. This has solidified Bowser's status as the main antagonist of the Mario Universe even further. Nintendo looks to be attempting to capitalize on the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie, which starred Jack Black as the main bad guy Bowser.
It's interesting that the news wasn't officially announced through the usual marketing channels. The community instead learned about this reveal after the ESRB gave the game its rating for age appropriateness.
The game has an ‘E’ rating, which denotes that it is suitable for all ages. The ESRB also provides a brief summary of the game, in which Bowser is quoted as saying that Mario and the other playable characters' goal in the game is to stop the villainous Bowser.
