As Christmas draws near, Valve spread some festive cheer by launching a beta build for its Steam client.

This update introduces the ability for players to designate certain games as private, ensuring a more organized shopping cart experience for personal and gift purchases alike. Steam users can now effortlessly navigate their holiday wishlists and spread gaming joy to friends.

Indeed, after two decades of service, Steam has finally introduced a feature that many users have been clamoring for— the ability to hide games. Rumors circulating a month prior hinted at this development, and now, with the beta build, players can experience greater control over their libraries. This feature, long-awaited by Steam users, allows for a more personalized and private gaming experience. As it's still in beta, user feedback will be crucial in refining and perfecting this addition to the Steam client.

Here's to more customizable gaming experiences! For Steam users looking to keep certain game choices under wraps, the new beta build offers a solution. To activate this feature, users need to opt into the Steam beta client. This involves going to the Settings menu, selecting Interface, and enabling the Steam Beta Update option from the drop-down menu. After a quick restart and an 88 MB update, users can mark specific games as private by clicking the cogwheel icon.

This not only conceals the game from other Steam users, including friends, but also hides achievements and playtime. The privacy mark can be freely revoked and applied to any number of games on Steam. The recent beta build for Steam not only introduced the ability to mark games as private but also streamlined the gift-giving process. Now, users can label games as private directly from the shopping cart. Moreover, the update allows users to purchase gifts for both friends and themselves in a single transaction. This improvement is especially convenient for gamers looking to gift multiplayer titles, fostering holiday gaming sessions with friends.
