The third and final day of the Preliminaries for the Goldmoney Asian Rapid finally came to an exciting end. According to the results, the top eight from the lot of 16 players have finally made their way to the Quarterfinals that will start on June 9, 2021. Inspecting the final rankings after the end of the Day 3 Preliminaries, little changed for the top eight and bottom eight players. Levon Aronian maintained his supremacy by scoring 10.5 points to be the table topper. Besides this, one Indian player, Arjun Erigaisi managed to make his way to the Quarterfinals by scoring 8 points to nab the eighth spot. It was the first time that Grandmaster Aronian won the prelim stage of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. Apart from him and Vladislav Artemiev with 10 points in the 2nd sport, most players struggled till the end to stay in the top 8. Arjun Erigaisi managed to draw his match with Grandmaster Anish Giri which meant that both made it through the Prelims stage. Grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda managed to make his way through after defeating Gukesh D towards the end.

Other players that made it through include Grandmasters Ding Liren with 9.5 points and Magnus Carlsen with 9 points. The list of qualifying players concluded with Wesley So who also scored 9 points. This means that Alireza Firouzja, Daniil Dubov, Hou Yifan, Salem Saleh, Peter Svidler, Vidit Gujrathi, Adhiban Baskaran, and Gukesh D failed to make a change in their standings.

The first day of the Quarterfinals of Goldmoney Asian Rapid for Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is set to stream on the India Today Gaming YouTube channel.
