Apple is preparing to launch a new dedicated gaming app at WWDC 2025, replacing Game Center. The new app will support iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, aiming to unify gaming across its platforms.

Apple seems ready to take a big step into the gaming world. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple is working on a brand-new gaming app that could change how users experience games across their devices. The app is expected to be officially announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, set to take place in June.

Apple to Replace Game Center with All-New Gaming App at WWDC 2025

This new app is being prepared in a way that it will work across all Apple devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It is expected to replace Apple’s older gaming service, Game Center, which was first introduced way back in 2010. While Game Center offered basic features like achievements and friend lists, it was never a major part of Apple’s ecosystem. That may finally be changing.

The upcoming app will include features such as player achievements, leaderboards, recent in-game activity, and even messages or updates from other players. In short, it’s Apple’s take on creating a more connected and competitive gaming experience, something we’ve already seen on platforms like PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Why Now?

Apple’s move seems well-timed. Just as Nintendo prepares to unveil its next-generation console, rumored to be the Switch 2, Apple appears ready to strengthen its position in the gaming space. The company’s recent acquisition of RAC7, its first-ever game development studio, shows Apple is not just testing the waters; it’s diving in.

This could be Apple’s most serious effort yet to build a proper gaming ecosystem. The tech giant seems to be aiming for a “console-like” experience that blends social features, cloud syncing, and cross-platform play, all within Apple’s walled garden.

Apple’s Push Into the Booming Gaming Industry

There’s no doubt that gaming is one of the fastest-growing entertainment industries worldwide. In fact, the global gaming market is expected to cross $300 billion in the coming years. Apple, with its vast user base and tightly integrated ecosystem, is in a strong position to benefit from this growth.

With services like Apple Arcade already running and now a dedicated app in the works, Apple clearly wants a bigger piece of the gaming pie. It aims to go beyond just being a platform where games are played it wants to become a key player in how games are discovered, shared, and enjoyed.
