Borderlands 4 Goes Gold Ahead of September 2025 Release – New Vault Hunter Rafa Steals Spotlight

Borderlands 4 now gone gold, means the full version is done and ready for launch on September 12, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. For fans who’ve been following, this came as a relief. After months of doubts and different reactions from trailers, now there’s a finish line. It proves Gearbox really got it done.

Studio head Randy Pitchford said this is a big moment, maybe one of the biggest for the team. Even though “gold” doesn’t mean the same it used to in physical discs time, it still means no more waiting for release dates to shift. Nowadays it’s rare for big titles to hit gold this far ahead.

 

Shift in Spotlight Brings Rafa to the Forefront

With recent trailers, focus went away from Vex, the Siren who appeared too often, and now introduces Rafa instead. This Vault Hunter plays melee-style and seems more grounded than others. Players was getting tired of seeing only Vex, so Rafa, who got gadgets and physical combat tools, was refreshing.
Rafa feels like a nod to older characters like Moze or Axton but more aggressive. The energy is totally different. The change also shows the game still values character mix, not just flashy powers.

Feature Set Shows Day-One Commitment

Bosses and minibosses now have dedicated loot from launch, something players kept asking since older games. Before this was added in updates, but Borderlands 4 doing it on Day 1. It’s a smart move for long-time players who care about farming.
The HUD also changes. No more classic minimap, it’s now a compass bar at the top. It works with the new exploration system where movement like gliding and grappling makes vertical zones feel alive.

Confirmed Release Plans Across Platforms

The game comes to all major platforms on September 12th and Switch 2 version drops October 3rd. It doesn't go full 60 FPS but it runs just fine for the most part at 30. Gearbox talks full On-rails content, cross-play. Physical Switch version has still gotta have a download.
Although missed some goals, fans now know the game over. With loot overhauled to character focus, it’s obvious the developers did there job. Now that the gold is confirmed it is just a matter of waiting now.
