Classic FPS Painkiller Returns with Gore, Co-op & Horror in October

The Painkiller game is returning. October 9, 2025, is the day when it will be finally released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and also on Steam for PC. The developer Anshar Studios, who work with 3D Realms, is bringing this brutal franchise to life once again. Many gamers loved the old one, so now maybe they can enjoy this new version that is more stylish but still like the older feel.

Painkiller game: What Pre-orders Have

There are two editions for players to choose from when pre-ordering:

• Standard Edition ($39.99) – You get something called Iron Crusade skins, which are four for characters and six for the guns like Stakegun and Rocket Launcher, and others. Also, physical console copies have bonus “Burnished Pride” golden weapons skins which are not available in digital.

• Deluxe Edition ($49.99) – This one includes everything the Standard has, plus Season Pass which gives access to 3 DLCs in the future (with many more skins too). It’s maybe better for those who want all things.

Gameplay? Well, it’s fast, very much movement and reaction-based. Players will be doing hook shots, jumps, and all manner of mobility in dark places. The fight is against many enemies attacking at once, so you need to shoot fast. People compare it to Quake, and some parts feel like Diablo too, because it’s also got some build stuff.

Features You Can Expect

• Co-op mode with 3 players, or solo play if you wish

• Enemies spawn changes, and the game doesn't feel the same every time

• Weapons have 6 types, all can be boosted with freeze or fire, and more

• You can collect Soul Shards for Tarot Cards (44 in all)

• Characters named Void, Ink, Roch, and Sol – all got different styles

Importantly, no microtransactions. The game lets you earn all the content just by playing, which is a rare thing now. All the future DLC will be free.

The game puts you in Purgatory. There’s a voice from heaven (some Creator being?) telling you to fight demons and stop Azazel, who wants Earth to burn. It’s a serious story, told inside lots of dramatic, haunted locations. The Gothic theme is powerful in its visual appeal.

Painkiller is about release, and it comes out October 9, and seems good for those who like those old-school shooting games with new changes. Not perfect for everyone, but many probably will enjoy. Pre-orders open now. Choice is yours.
