COD Black Ops 7: Release Window, Gameplay Leaks, Zombies, and What’s Coming in 2025

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 arrives in late 2025 with remastered BO2 maps, co-op open-world campaign, Zombies, advanced movement, and more.

Activision dropping a new Call of Duty game every year is as expected as a Monday morning coffee spill. But Black Ops 7? Now that’s a flavor of nostalgia and futuristic madness fans have been waiting for. Here’s your all-in-one guide to what’s coming, what’s rumored, and what’s still lurking in the shadows.

The Release Window: When's the Big Drop?

There’s no hard release date yet, but if we’re going by historical data (and CoD fans definitely do), it’s almost certainly going to hit shelves in October or November 2025. Out of 21 titles, every single one dropped during these two months. It’s tradition at this point.

Trailer Talk: What Did We See?

Only one official trailer has dropped, and it’s already stirred up the community. It confirms the futuristic setting and showcases the return of some legendary Black Ops characters. But as always, the leaks go deeper than what’s shown on screen.

What Platforms Will It Be On?

Despite Microsoft owning Activision now, CoD isn’t going Xbox-exclusive. Not even close. Black Ops 7 will launch on:

  • Xbox One

  • Xbox Series X/S

  • PlayStation 4

  • PlayStation 5

  • PC

And guess what? Microsoft has even signed a 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo consoles—yep, possibly even the Switch 2 when that drops. So CoD is staying wide and available.

Dev Squad: Who’s Making It?

Treyarch is once again at the helm. While they’re still hard at work supporting Black Ops 6 with post-launch updates, they’re also leading development on BO7. Back-to-back Treyarch Black Ops titles? That’s a win for long-time fans.

What’s New in Gameplay? Let’s Break It Down

Here’s a rundown of the biggest leaks and features:

Remastered Black Ops 2 Maps

If you’ve ever dropped 30 bombs on Raid or controlled mid in Standoff, prepare to get hit with the nostalgia stick. BO7 is set to feature remastered maps from Black Ops 2, possibly mixed in with brand-new futuristic layouts—including some inspired by a futuristic Japanese aesthetic. That teaser trailer definitely hinted at it.

The Return of Pick 10 System

Old-school loadout fans, rejoice. The Pick 10 Create-a-Class system might be coming back. This means you’ll be able to build your loadout by spending 10 points across perks, gear, weapons, and attachments. It was all about trade-offs and creativity—and if it returns, expect meta builds to go wild.

Advanced Movement — Wall Running, Wall Jumping, Jetpacks?

Leaks and datamines suggest that Omnimovement (introduced in BO6) is getting an upgrade. Think wall running, mini wall jumps, and yes—even jetpacks. While it’s unclear if this movement system will launch with BO7 or just appear in BO6’s limited-time modes, players have already found functioning mechanics in BO6’s game files.

So, movement sweats might be back in business.

Open-World Campaign

Yup, you read that right. Reports suggest that BO7 will feature a full-blown open-world campaign with up to 4-player co-op. Think Far Cry vibes but with CoD's high-octane storytelling and missions. Biomes, locations, side quests—it might all be part of the experience.

Treyarch hasn’t confirmed the open-world format yet, but they have confirmed a “thrilling and innovative Co-op Campaign.” So we’re halfway there.

Round-Based Zombies Are (Still) Back

After years of experimentation (some of which fans didn’t love), round-based Zombies are back for the long haul. BO6 reintroduced the classic undead chaos, and BO7 will continue that trend. It’s great news for anyone who loves stacking headshots and trying to survive endless waves with an underleveled pistol.

What the Fans Are Saying

The community is buzzing, especially with the return of older maps and potential advanced movement. OG players who grew up on BO2 and jetpack-era gameplay are cautiously hyped. Some Reddit threads are split on whether wall running is good or bad, but everyone agrees—if it’s polished and fun, bring it on.

What We’re Hoping to See

Let’s throw in a few educated guesses and wild dreams:

  • Weapon camos that evolve over time, a la BO2’s Diamond or BO4’s reactive skins

  • More cross-title operators (imagine Ghost teaming up with Frank Woods)

  • Expanded Zombies story with new factions and bigger maps

  • Battle Pass crossovers with actual game mechanics, not just cosmetics

Final Thoughts

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the series. From a possible open-world co-op campaign and returning classic maps to advanced movement and full Zombies support, it’s clear Treyarch is pulling from every era of CoD to cook up something bold.

So if you’ve been sleeping on the franchise, it might be time to wake up—because BO7 isn’t just another annual drop. It could be the Call of Duty that brings everyone back to the lobby.
