A new Warzone leak hints that Activision may scrap or delay the upcoming battle royale map, Avalon, in favor of bringing back Verdansk in Season 3. Find out what this means for Warzone’s future.
A new Warzone map might be getting the axe, all in favor of bringing back Verdansk, according to a well-known Call of Duty leaker. Originally, the next big battle royale map—codenamed Avalon—was expected to drop alongside the next premium Call of Duty game. But now, leaks suggest that Activision could be shifting gears, prioritizing Verdansk’s return with Season 3 instead.
A Break in the Usual Warzone Integration Pattern
Typically, when a new premium Call of Duty launches, Warzone gets a fresh battle royale map as part of Season 1. However, Black Ops 6 broke this trend by keeping Urzikstan as the main map, despite it originally being designed for Modern Warfare 3. This unexpected shift has now created an unusual situation for Warzone’s content pipeline, leaving the next big map uncertain.
TheGhostOfHope’s Leaks: Avalon Might Be Scrapped or Repurposed
Reputable insider TheGhostOfHope posted on X that Avalon might be "completely canned" or delayed, as Activision shifts focus to bringing Verdansk back. In a follow-up, he suggested that if Avalon doesn’t make it into Warzone, it could be repurposed as a Zombies map for the next Treyarch-led Call of Duty, often referred to as “BO7.”
Avalon Could Become an Outbreak Zombies Map for 2025
The Outbreak Zombies mode, first introduced in Black Ops Cold War, is rumored to return in Call of Duty’s 2025 installment. Early reports suggested it would feature unique maps, including a Tranzit-inspired one, but now Activision may be considering integrating Avalon into this open-world Zombies experience. This would be a similar approach to how Urzikstan was used for MW3 Zombies, ensuring the large-scale setting fits seamlessly into the game mode.
Why Verdansk’s Return Makes Sense
Verdansk remains one of the most beloved maps in Warzone history, and Activision appears to be doing everything possible to bring it back smoothly and with nostalgia-fueled content. Weapons, operators, and even classic mechanics could return to capture the original Warzone experience. Given how Modern Warfare 3 relaunched Urzikstan instead of adding a new map post-Black Ops 6, it wouldn’t be surprising if Activision used the same strategy here.
For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement, but if the leaks are accurate, Warzone could soon see the long-awaited return of Verdansk—at the cost of a brand-new battle royale map.
