Crimson Desert Promises Chaotic Open-World Mayhem with Deep Combo-Based Combat

Crimson Desert is, like, one of them games that you can’t put in one box. Made by Pearl Abyss, who also did Black Desert (which was also not small), this one is more messy in a good way. They say it started like a prequel but now it’s its own thing with a dude named Kliff Macduff. The land is in shambles, and politics have gone wrong after a king fell into a coma.

Lots is happening, like a lot. And the trailer showed fire, towns, yelling, and things flying all over.

Crimson Desert: Fighting With Combos and No Mercy

The battle system? It’s fast. Fast, sometimes too much if you don’t keep up. You can press light, then heavy, then maybe dodge or parry—but not always in that order. Stuff like Turning Slash, Force Palm, and some weird kick moves make it kinda look like Devil May Cry, but heavier, almost.

At G-STAR, which is some gaming event, I think, people said it’s among the best they’ve played… though some other folks said it was kinda wild and hard to track. Especially the camera, which sometimes just does its own thing.

Also, the combos—there are many. Like, you can hold a direction, run and swing, switch stances, all in one fight. A bit much, but fun if you like that.

The World Feels Like It’s Alive (Sort Of)

So the game world’s called Pywel and it’s not peaceful. It’s got NPCs who run, cry, talk, and react when you mess up things. You can climb towers, glide across the wind, or go fishing. One Reddit guy said a boss threw fire and knocked over a whole fort—and it wasn’t even scripted. Now that’s something.

Some folks called it Elder Scrolls-y, but maybe more angry? You can even fight in the air with a wyvern or cook stuff. It got weather, reputation (like if you’re a hero or not), and probably horses too.

Bosses Hit Hard

Boss battles look like they're gonna make people cry. There’s a Staglord who is big and heavy and a mage lady who flies and does magic in a bad way. You can’t just spam attack—timing matters. Use walls, run, dodge, and pray.

Fights are flashy. Everything breaks. Stuff explodes. And your character feels like they're getting knocked over, not like old-school floaty combat.

Coming Later (But Not Soon)

Right now, they are saying late 2025 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even Mac. Multiplayer might come later, but first it’s single-player only. Wishlisting is open, but don’t expect it next week.

Crimson Desert tries doing a bit of everything—fighting, exploring, surviving, and dramatic storytelling. It’s big, noisy, and combo-hungry. If you like Witcher, maybe try it. If you don’t, well, it’s still worth watching.
