Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2: Release Window, Plot, New Characters & More

After considerable excitement, Cyberpunk Edgerunners has been confirmed for a second season. Once again, CD Projekt Red and Studio TRIGGER have joined forces to tell a brand new tale set in the sordid, futuristic world of Cyberpunk 2077. Season 2 isn't going to pick up from where we left off with David and Lucy; it is going to leverage a new, self-contained story filled with thrilling moments, heartfelt emotion, and pure, raw chaos - just like the first season that made all of us fans.

What’s New in Season 2?

It was announced on 4 July, 2025. While Season 2 won't be a traditional sequel, it's a 10-episode standalone saga exploring redemption and revenge in the grimy and glamor of Night City. The official teaser teases a gritty and emotionally charged narrative, where one central theme propels the story: "In a world of spectacle, how far do you have to go for your story to matter?"

The new season is being directed by SSSS Gridman’s Kai Ikarashi, with character design by Kanno Ichigo (Promare) and writing from Masahiko Otsuka and Hugo Award-winner Bartosz Sztybor. While the full plot remains under wraps, a trailer or sneak peek is expected to be released very soon possibly as early as tomorrow.

The Impact of Season 1

Season 1, which tracked the tragic tale of David Martinez and Lucy Kushinada, takes place a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077. It became a massive hit in 2022, pulling over a million daily viewers during launch week and winning the coveted Anime of the Year award. Its success managed to launch the game itself back to life and there's even a shout out to David's story in Cyberpunk 2077: 2.0.

Even though Season 2 is not a continuation of David and Lucy's narrative arc, CD projekt Red has hinted at some cameo appearances, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners is not just back, but it's changed. A new way, new creator, deeper story, Season 2 will build on all the work in the first season and just take a look at new parts of Night City. There isn't a hard release date with 2025 being the best guess.  The series will be exclusive to Netflix, and all we know is that another nostalgia trip that combines stunning visual work with a story overflowing with emotion is coming to us next time.
