Drag x Drive launches August 14 on Switch 2 with exciting 3v3 wheelchair basketball, motion-based controls, and vibrant futuristic arenas.
So Nintendo has now made it official that their new game Drag x Drive is coming on August 14, 2025. The game will be only available digital via Nintendo eShop for Switch 2 users. The announcement was already confirmed in the Nintendo Today app.
What Kind of Game Is Drag x Drive?
Drag x Drive is not a normal basketball game. It is more creative where you play 3 versus 3 wheelchair basketball, which is not seen very common in video games. The control is the main part you use each Joy-Con 2 controller as if like it's a mouse. If you tilt both front, your character go forward. If you move one, your wheelchair turns.
It is played on a stylish arena filled with colourful lights, ramps and half pipes. That lets players do trick moves, flips and wild dunk shots. Nintendo is showing off what Joy-Con 2 can really do here.
Based on early previews, the control system is something very different. Some game reviews mention that the haptic feedback on Joy-Con 2 lets you feel different surfaces when driving. To shoot, you just have to raise and flick the controller. The more precise you flick, the better the shot you make.
People who got to play said the controls is actually working well. But they were unsure about how much variety the game will have. Like, are there going to be other arenas? Can you play solo? Will there be unlocks or character customisation?
Unfortunately, Drag x Drive is launching as a digital-only title, which means there won't be any physical cartridge available in store. That can be a letdown for collectors maybe. Also, the price is still not announced by Nintendo. But it seems likely it might be a smaller cost game, since it's more focused on motion and eShop.
Public Reactions Till Now
Online response has been kind of mixed. Some appreciated the inclusion of wheelchair sport which is quite rare in big games. But some others wonder if the game would be too basic or have long-lasting play value. Reddit threads shows both types of opinions.
Some previews liked the gameplay idea but noted that there's still many unknowns about the full content. So a bit early to judge.
So yeah, Drag x Drive is going to be different from what you usually get from Nintendo. The gameplay is experimental and it tries something new with how players interact. August 14 is the release date, and many players will be curious to see if it delivers more than just a new control experience. Whether or not it’s deep enough, time will tell.
