Dune Awakening PvP Issue: Everything You Need to Know About the Deep Desert Apology

- July 10, 2025 (UPDATED: July 10, 2025 11:45 IST)
Funcom issues apology and reimburses players after a patch mistakenly converted Deep Desert zones to PvP, causing base and equipment losses.
On patch day July 7, 2025 Funcom inadvertently turned parts of the PvE-labeled areas of the Deep Desert to PvP, at the expense of unaware players losing a great deal of gear and bases. It was a mix-up and this was premature usage of layout alterations scheduled to take place in the following Coriolis cycle.
Funcom’s Apology & Reimbursement Plan
In an official update, developers acknowledged the error:
“This was an oversight in our development process … We’re incredibly sorry … and will be better in the future.”
By the weekend, the reimbursements, such as vehicles, materials, cosmetics, and affected players will be refunded in the Claim Rewards tab inside of the game. In addition to this, Funcom is going through the support tickets to get back crash, disconnect and server-transfer losses
Exploit Takedown & PvP Tweaks
- Funcom made an aggressive anti-cheat campaign:
- Hundreds of cheaters have been already banned
- Repair worked on major exploits, such as item duplication, rocket exploits and vehicle hijacks
Funcom have also promised to polish endgame balance: the recent patch increased Tier 6 resources in current PvE zones of the Deep Desert, and required a prolonged automatic exit time when leaving a PvP zone in an attempt to diminish border camping
Community Reaction & Future Directions
Though the changes were received positively by the PvE players, lots of the players who are into PvP believe that the Deep Desert is now a PvE farming simulator. The Creative Director of Funcom called out a compromise: a state of so-called Partial Warfare that proposes the interruption in differentiated safety zones with high-risk, high-reward PvP hot zones.
From one Redditor:
“As PvP player, I am seriously excited about the changes… More PvE will come to DD and some of those will even try their hand at PvP”
In future, Funcom will conduct surveys in the community and adjust aspects on vehicle combat, respawning, and PvP balance, keeping PvE players on track to have access to endgame content in mind.
Overall, internal transparency, refunding of all money and immediate apology demonstrate that Funcom is interested in the elevation of the rough launch of Dune: Awakening, as well as reconciliations in PvE and PvP areas.
