Dune: Awakening Temporarily Removes Steam Family Sharing Amid Exploit Issues

Funcom had recently disabled Steam Family Sharing for Dune: Awakening, saying that it was being misused a lot. A lot of players had used it wrongly, causing an exploit that led to Solari currency flooding the game economy. As a result, hundreds of users were banned, and many resources were taken away. Funcom admitted it was sad that real users were also getting affected by this and said they will bring back the feature after safety fixes are implemented.

Though there is no exact date, it’s expected that the sharing might get re-added before 2025 ends, if everything goes according to the developer's plans. For now, the team is looking into more solid protections before allowing access again.

Why It Was Useful to People

Steam Family Sharing has long been a major help for many users who don't want to buy the same game two times in a household. Dune: Awakening was enjoyed by multiple players on different accounts but on the same PC, without spending extra money. That was saving cost but also keeping each player's progress separate.

This feature was more than just a small bonus; it was a big part of how people played the game on a budget. Funcom’s apology clearly showed that they understood this was not a simple issue. While the problem came from cheaters, the solution unfortunately caused issues for fair-playing people, too.

When It Comes Again and What Happens Now

Funcom is saying they will return the Steam Sharing once the system cannot be abused again. The company may bring it back later in 2025, or it could be earlier, depending on how fast they fix all the loopholes.

Till then, everyone who used to share the game will have to buy a separate copy to keep playing. Developers are still putting out patches, including one recent hotfix that fixes unintended lost items and structures after the exploit incident. Players affected can now claim compensation from the in-game rewards place.

Also, some gameplay changes were introduced: scout ornithopters can’t kill players by landing on them anymore, and PvP balance also gets some updates. Vehicle ramming tactics were removed, too. All of these are aimed at improving fairness in match play, especially for late-game players.

Even if Dune: Awakening is still developing, this loss of Family Sharing has a major impact on its community. The developers are taking strong action against cheaters, but that has also led to honest players losing a helpful feature. If the fix comes soon, many people will be glad—but till then, some may feel left out of the experience they were enjoying before.
